The sugar project partners (JoyFm, Rotary Club Ghana, Ghana Health Service and MPA) organized an inception meeting at Begoro on the 28th of febraury, 2019 to discuss educating the communities into adopting simple lifestyle practices for prevention of diabetes and taking diabetes testing to the doorsteps of people and linking those who needed care with the appropriate medical facilities.
In attendance was a representative from JoyFM, the District Director Dr. Abou and his team and Prof. Hagan.
In 2018 a community outreach and social mobilization on diabetes in selected communities was carried out. The exercise was undertaken in two districts [Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) and Abura-Asibu-Kwamankese (AAK)]. The exercise screened a total of 1,046 participants, out of which about 12% (122) were identified as having had high sugar levels, with no significant difference between the two districts
